Earn Official U.S. University Credit at IALC Schools

Students who choose an IALC-accredited language school can now add even greater academic value to their study-abroad experience. Thanks to IALC’s partnership with Westminster University, U.S. learners have the opportunity to study a foreign language abroad while earning official university credit recognised across the United States.

A Pathway to Recognised Academic Achievement

Founded in 1875 and accredited through NWCCU and the U.S. Department of Education, Westminster University serves as the School of Record for selected IALC member schools. The university issues official U.S. transcripts for approved language and culture courses completed abroad, ensuring academic recognition and providing students with clear credit transfer pathways.

By combining high-quality instruction at IALC schools with Westminster’s academic oversight, students gain the confidence that their international language studies contribute meaningfully to their academic progression.

Where Can Students Study for Credit?

The collaboration currently includes IALC schools offering programmes in:

  • Arabic
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Mandarin
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Spanish

Participating schools are located across Europe, Asia, Latin America and beyond, in destinations such as Amman, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Aix-en-Provence, Paris, Lyon, Nice, Bordeaux, Siena, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Buenos Aires, Guatemala and Costa Rica. A full list of eligible schools is available in the official information sheet.

How the Credit Process Works

  1. Students enrol in an approved programme at a participating IALC school.
  2. They complete their language and culture coursework abroad.
  3. Westminster University reviews and validates academic achievement.
  4. An official U.S. transcript is issued directly to the student or their home institution.

This streamlined process makes earning academic credit abroad simple, transparent and fully supported.
