CES Edinburgh Junior Centre
Care. Excellence. Success.
Nestled in one of the most attractive areas of the city, CES Edinburgh’s Junior Summer Centre has been welcoming students from all over the world since 2014. The summer school takes place in one of Edinburgh’s most historic private schools, and the modern classrooms and glorious outside spaces allow students to enjoy themselves inside and outside of the classroom. Students at Centre of English Studies follow a unique programme where language is treated as a communication skill: the focus is not on grammar and vocabulary, but on building confidence and fluency to allow students to engage with the culture and history of Scotland in a fun and safe environment. The in-classroom teaching is complimented by an exciting range of afternoon activities, and full day excursion every weekend will take students outside of the city and allow them to explore the highlights of Scotland!

Programmes Offered
The Standard General English Programme offered at CES Edinburgh’s Junior School combines expert English language training with an extensive cultural and social programme that is designed to maximise the student experience both inside and outside of the classroom. For three hours each morning, students will use all of the four key English language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – as they learn about topics and cul-ture that are important to both the students themselves and the location in which they are studying. At CES there is a strong focus on using English as a tool for communication, and as such our students will learn how to work together in small groups, to develop the confidence to present in front of the class, and to take ownership of their own learning and development. Our Yellow Shirt social programme team work closely with the teachers and academic staff to ensure that the activities students go out on in the afternoon are tied into the topics they have been learning about in class. We feel the social programme should complement classroom learning, giving students a new perspective on their studies and a passion to go into class the following day wanting to learn more.
For four decades Centre of English Studies has worked hard to balance learning in-side and outside of the classroom, and as a result is able to deliver a programme that immerses our students in English in a way that can’t be achieved at home.
