Mandarin House Shanghai Rejoins IALC

With over two decades of experience and a reputation for excellence, Mandarin House Shanghai is reaffirming its commitment to world-class teaching and international cooperation in language learning.

Two Decades of Experience

To celebrate this milestone, we spoke with Jasmine Bian, Director at Mandarin House Shanghai, about what makes their school unique, what students can look forward to, and what the IALC membership means for the future.

In what ways is your location different and remarkable?

Our location is in the heart of Shanghai, one of the most dynamic and influential cities in the world. As a global financial hub and cultural crossroads, Shanghai blends modern innovation with rich history. Our school is centrally located near iconic landmarks such as People’s Square, the Shanghai Book City, the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, and the bustling Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street. We’re also situated at the intersection of four major metro lines, offering unparalleled convenience and connectivity. Being in Shanghai means our students experience both the pulse of a global metropolis and the depth of traditional Chinese culture.

What makes Mandarin House Stand Out?

Our school stands out with over 20 years of experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. As one of the first established Chinese language schools in Shanghai, we offer a well-developed curriculum tailored to learners of all levels. All classes are kept small — no more than six students — to ensure personalized attention and effective progress. What also sets us apart is our central location in one of the world’s most vibrant cities, where students can immerse themselves not only in language learning but also in real-life cultural experiences. Through engaging lessons, experienced teachers, and enriching excursions, we make education both meaningful and memorable. Additionally, we are proud to have been recognized with the STM star awards twice, a testament to the quality and impact of our school.

Most Popular Courses: Conversational, Flexible, and Fun

Our most popular courses include the Conversational Group Course (20 lessons per week), which focuses on practical speaking skills in small group settings. We also offer flexible 1-on-1 private lessons tailored to individual goals and schedules. In addition, our online courses are a great option for those who prefer to learn remotely. During the summer, our Chinese Summer Camp is especially popular among younger learners, combining language learning with fun cultural activities and city excursions. At our school, everything can be tailored — whether it’s the course content, schedule, or learning format, making it a true one-stop solution for anyone looking to learn Chinese effectively and enjoyably.

A Return to IALC: Quality Meets Global Connection

We decided to re-join IALC because it is a respected international network of language schools that shares our commitment to quality education and cultural exchange. As a school that values excellence in teaching and providing the best experience for our students, being part of IALC allows us to connect with like-minded institutions worldwide. We feel proud to be part of this community, as it aligns with our mission to offer high-quality, personalized language learning experiences while also promoting global cultural understanding. Joining IALC also opens up more opportunities to access a wider range of resources and experiences in language education.

What Students Love Most

Our students love the personalized approach we offer at our school. With small class sizes, they receive individualized attention that helps them progress at their own pace. Many students find that they can achieve their language goals faster here than at university or other language schools, thanks to our focused, practical teaching methods. They also appreciate the immersive learning environment, where they can practice Chinese not just in the classroom, but also in real-life settings through cultural activities and excursions around Shanghai. Additionally, our experienced teachers, flexible course options, and the ability to tailor their learning experience make students feel supported and motivated to achieve success. Many students also enjoy the warm and welcoming atmosphere at our school, which fosters a sense of community and belonging.

What’s New: Tours, Homestays, and Summer for Families

We have some exciting new offers and programmes coming up! In addition to our standard courses, we are now offering group tour study programmes, where participants can combine language learning with cultural exploration across China. We are also considering a new programme that allows students to immerse themselves even further by learning Chinese while staying with a host teacher’s family. Additionally, for a limited time, we’re offering a special discount on our Group Courses, and we’re also launching a Summer Programme designed specifically for traveling families. Keep an eye out for more details!

A Final Word

At Mandarin House, we believe the Chinese language unlocks new worlds—where every lesson brings you closer to understanding, connection, and endless opportunities.
