GuardMe: Helping Students Travel

As summer programmes prepare to welcome students from around the world, schools and agents are once again facing familiar questions—how to handle health coverage, cancellations, and medical support when things don’t go as planned.

30 Years Working with International Education Partners

GuardMe has spent nearly 30 years working with international education partners to navigate exactly these kinds of challenges, developing insurance solutions that reflect the real-life complexities of student travel.

We know how much schools take on to make these programmes possible—and we’re here to support that work, every step of the way.

In recent months, we’ve seen just how varied those challenges can be—students needing to return home unexpectedly, families navigating surprise medical bills abroad, or programmes adjusting to last-minute cancellations after exam resits.

The policies we build with our partners are designed to flex with these realities, with coverage that extends to mental health, pre-existing conditions, and even academic hurdles like subject failure.

In addition to medical coverage and repatriation up to €10 million, GuardMe policies include:

  • Direct billing for hospital treatments
  • Coverage for lost baggage, travel documents, and personal liability
  • Online doctor consultations in multiple languages
  • No deductibles or co-payments

This flexibility is particularly helpful for younger students and group travel. With early issuance options, multiple policy types, and no minimum volume required, the aim is to keep coverage accessible and easy to manage.

Because preparing for summer isn’t just about logistics—it’s about making sure you’re ready for what can’t be planned.

Consider this real student example:

A 15-year-old from France was involved in a major cycling accident and suffered severe facial and dental injuries. He was due to travel to Scotland for a 25-day course but cancelled owing to his ongoing treatment requirements in France arising from his cycling injuries. Under his GuardMe Multi-risk Plus Cancellation policy, he was reimbursed €7,073.02 in cancellation costs for his flights, accommodation and course fees.
