Celebrating 30 Years of Sprachinstitut TREFFPUNKT

Since 1995, Sprachinstitut TREFFPUNKT has been a welcoming home for learners from around the world to study German in one of Germany’s most beautiful and historic towns: Bamberg.

This week, the school celebrated its 30th anniversary with a party for staff and students and welcomed visitors with a photo display in the entrance showcasing memories from over the years.

Founded on a deep commitment to personal attention and academic excellence, TREFFPUNKT has helped thousands of students gain fluency and confidence through a blend of structured teaching and real-life immersion in the UNESCO-listed old town of Bamberg.

As a woman-led school, TREFFPUNKT is guided by CEO Kristina and Principal Mareen, who lead with heart, hands-on experience, and a personal touch—creating a warm, welcoming environment where every student feels seen, supported, and inspired to succeed.

“I Always Felt Safe” – A Student’s Experience at TREFFPUNKT

From the first email to the farewell photo, learners feel like part of the TREFFPUNKT family, a feeling beautifully captured by Elizabeth from Mexico, who experienced the school alongside her daughter.

Why did you choose Bamberg?

When looking for a school where I could learn German together with my daughter, I had certain criteria in mind. I wanted a small, traditional, and safe city—a place where I could walk around without worry, where people are respectful, especially toward children. I also wanted a location with a rich cultural heritage to offer my daughter a complete learning experience.

What is a typical day like at TREFFPUNKT?

I arrive early at school. In the morning, we focus on grammar, reading, and writing, followed by conversation exercises and interactive language games. The school’s central location in Bamberg is a big advantage. Everything is within walking distance, including the beautiful riverside, cafés, and historical landmarks. The afternoon activities organized by TREFFPUNKT are a perfect way to round off the day.

How does TREFFPUNKT ensure a safe learning environment?

Coming from Mexico, safety is very important to me. At TREFFPUNKT, I always felt that my daughter and I were in good hands. The school staff made sure she was well taken care of, and I never had to worry. It worked so well for us that I have now been returning for three years. Even my daughter, who learns during her vacation, always says: “See you next year!”

What advice would you give to families considering learning German at TREFFPUNKT?

I was searching for a place where I could study without leaving my daughter alone. Many programs start at age 9 or even 13, but TREFFPUNKT was different. Their response was: “Of course, no problem! Even if we don’t have a course for your daughter, we’ll find a way.” That warm-hearted approach made all the difference for me. My daughter was the only child in her class, but they made it work, and when the course ended, she cried because she didn’t want it to be over.

Final thoughts on TREFFPUNKT’s 30th anniversary?

Congratulations! TREFFPUNKT is like a big family. Even teachers I never had greet me as if we’ve known each other for years. Never lose this warmth—what you do is magical!

Elizabeth’s words reflect what makes TREFFPUNKT so special: the personal connections, the sense of belonging, and the school’s genuine care for every student — values that have shaped its 30-year journey.

A Balanced Approach to Learning German

TREFFPUNKT’s teaching philosophy rests on three key pillars: structured classes that emphasize communication and accuracy, guided self-study to ensure continuous progress between lessons, and real-life practice where students actively use their German in everyday situations.

Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the classroom, TREFFPUNKT emphasizes cultural connection. Weekly social activities, local insights, and genuine conversations contribute to making the learning experience truly unforgettable.

The school’s signature workshop, Emergency Calls in German, reflects its focus on language for life. This creative, practical session teaches students to stay calm and communicate effectively in urgent situations — through role-plays, essential vocabulary, and cultural awareness. It’s both fun and empowering, and just one of many examples of how TREFFPUNKT goes beyond classroom teaching.

Congratulations to the TREFFPUNKT Team

30 years of excellence in language education is a remarkable milestone. IALC warmly congratulates the entire TREFFPUNKT team for their dedication to quality, innovation, and humanity in teaching — and for creating a place where language learning truly changes lives.
