Learn English in Ireland and Malta with Atlas Language School

Atlas Language School was founded in 2003 in Dublin. Although it started with only a single classroom and one student it expanded quickly to become one of the largest language schools in Ireland. Today, Atlas Dublin is located in Portobello House, a famous landmark building that dates back to 1805. Initially a hotel, it transitioned through a number of different uses, including at one point a nursing home where the famous Irish painter Jack B Yeats spent his final years. The school has 24 classrooms, a library, cafe and student room. Portobello House is not only steeped in a rich history but also boasts an exceptional location. Situated along the picturesque Grand Canal in the southern part of Dublin, it’s within easy walking distance of the city center while also being well-served by major bus routes and the Luas tram line.

Atlas Malta was opened in 2019 and is a new, modern, purpose-built school, with large, bright classrooms, a fully fitted cafe, and stunning sea views! It’s situated within walking distance to all the attractions of St Julian’s, making it the perfect location to use as a starting point to explore the beautiful island of Malta. All of Atlas Malta’s accommodation options are within walking distance to the school.

We interviewed School Director Nico Dowling to learn more about Atlas Language Schools and how they feel about becoming a member of IALC!

Why did you decide to join IALC and how do you feel about it?

We are thrilled about joining IALC, which marks a milestone for our school. Our decision to become a member was driven by a desire to align with an organisation that shares our values of excellence, collaboration, and ongoing development. Membership in IALC not only affirms our dedication to these principles but also opens doors to new opportunities for partnership, quality assurance, and continuous enhancement of our educational practices. It is testimony to our shared commitment to high-quality language education, which drove us to apply for IALC membership. With the IALC membership come opportunities for collaboration with like-minded schools and agents, quality assurance, and continuous improvement and development.

What are the most popular courses at your school?

Our most popular courses among adult learners at Atlas are the General English Fluency (GE20), a 20-lesson weekly program, and the General English Fluency Plus (GE26), encompassing 26 lessons each week. These foundational courses are complemented by an array of free additional academic support sessions, including tutorials and study clubs tailored to specific interests, such as Job Club, Conversation Class, or English Around the World to name a few. Additionally, we have a range of offerings for young adults and young learners – from sustainability-focused courses and exam preparation to work experience opportunities.

What do your students love most about your school?

I think our students appreciate the comprehensive academic foundation we provide, enriched by a broad spectrum of extracurricular and social activities. However, what truly sets us apart is our commitment to going above and beyond in student support. Our mission statement is ‘to make each day of our student’s language travel programme an unforgettable life and learning experience’ and so we aim to make each student’s time with us as memorable and enriching as possible. Despite our growth, we maintain a personal and welcoming atmosphere where every student feels recognised and valued.

Do you have any special offers planned for 2024?

We are currently running promotions for our school in Malta and will have a variety of special offers for our partners over the course of the year.
