Genki Japanese and Culture School Kyoto

Don’t just learn Japanese, learn Japan

GenkiJACS is one of the first Japanese schools in Japan to teach communicative Japanese for everyday life, rather than academic Japanese. That’s why lessons focus not just on what to say, but on why, how and when to say it. We offer short term courses with multiple starts during the year.

Our building is just 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Gion district and has 9 comfortable, welcoming classrooms with big-screen projectors and smart display software and a lounge for students to relax with games, TV, drinks, free WIFI and more! Our class size of maximum 8 students is by far the smallest of any accredited Japanese school in Japan. We call this “the GenkiJACS difference”. It’s a big part of the reason why we were the first Japanese school to be voted Star World Language School, the highest award available to a language school, and why students come back to study with us again and again.

Kyoto, though no longer the capital of Japan, it remains her heart. Buddhist temples, Shinto Shrines, castles and gardens: to name all of them would take quite some time. Kyoto continues to be one of the best-preserved cities in Japan, which makes it a great destination if your goal is to touch history of Japan.

However, with a population of almost 1.5 million and because it is incredibly well connected to Osaka and Kobe, if you are looking to see modern Japan, Kyoto has that to offer! Our school is only minutes way on foot from the beautiful Gion and downtown Kawaramachi districts, and a short ride to Kyoto Station. A 25-minute stroll and you will reach the world-famous Kiomozu-Dera.

Exams

At the end of each course section or level, the students will have an exam in order to determine if it is possible to move forward to the higher levels. To pass those exams, the score must be at least 70%. When the students finish their course, they receive a certificate stating the highest class level reached. We do not offer specific JLPT exam preparation courses, however we do study all the necessary topics and we can provide JLPT mock exams together with exam enrolment assistance.

Testimonials

I really appreciated how open the teachers were to questions and suggestions. The trips were also very educational and fun.

The classes were relaxed and interesting and the teachers could easily explain things I had trouble with.

Originally I went to Genkijacs for four weeks but after two weeks I realized I liked it so much I ended up studying there for three months!

The teachers and classes: good attitude and always listening to wishes about class content.

I really loved the atmosphere and the teachers. The teachers are absolutely great and I learned here a lot more than the past 2 years at Germany. Genki 1/2 are the best textbooks for learning Japanese!

If you want to learn Japanese, Genki JACS is the place to go. Genki JACS is a great all around experience. — I’m planning to go back again for another 4 weeks.
