ELC Eastbourne, founded in 1936, is one of the oldest language schools in the UK and is highly ranked based on British Council inspection reports. ELC is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to transform lives by enabling people to better communicate globally. The school is based in the centre of Eastbourne, 3 minutes’ walk from the beach and the main shopping area. ELC Eastbourne has 2 buildings with 22 classrooms, a large student lounge, student kitchen and large garden. It offers a wide range of courses for adults and young adults aged 16+, and closed groups aged 13+.

Programmes Offered
ELC Eastbourne’s courses and teaching provide effective English language training for clients who need English for their work, study, travel or personal pleasure. We offer a wide range of courses year-round for adults aged 16+ taught by our experienced team of teachers and specialist trainers.
General English
25 or 30 lessons per week (18.75 or 22.5 hours). Designed to give you the confidence to communicate effectively in English. In addition to the core morning programme of 20 lessons, afternoon electives include: 1. Speaking, pronunciation and listening. 2. Reading, writing and vocabulary. 3. Cambridge exam preparation (First and Advanced). 4. English for Work. 5. Academic English IELTS/EAP.
Cambridge Exam Preparation
25 or 30 lessons week (18.75 or 22.5 hours). Designed to provide careful and thorough preparation for all aspects of the exam We offer dedicated courses preparing for First, Advanced and proficiency.
IELTS Exam Preparation
25 or 30 lessons week (18.75 or 22.5 hours). 4-week intensive courses designed to provide thorough preparation for the academic IELTS module.
Study Year Programme
25 or 30 lessons week (18.75 or 22.5 hours). Long-term study programme for students wanting to study 24 weeks or more.
Young Adult Summer Plus course
(16-22 years old) 25 lessons plus 2 afternoon activities plus 1 x half- day guided excursion per week.
English Plus courses
Range of General English plus activity courses. Morning English lessons plus 3 afternoons per week with a trainer/coach focussed on Tennis, Golf, Watersports, Horse-riding and Natural Health/Yoga
50+ course
2-week programmes in spring and autumn for mature learners. Morning language lessons and a full social programme designed for mature learners with 3 afternoon activities per week and 1 x full-day guided excursion, designed to show the best that Sussex has to offer. ELC Eastbourne has been running these courses for nearly 40 years.

Homestay
Our carefully selected homestays offer a friendly, safe home environment. Nearly all our homestays are within walking distance, typically 20-30 minutes on average from school (max 30 minutes). All homestays include free wifi. We offer a range of options including single or twin/double rooms, shared or private bathrooms.
Shared Apartment
For students who like more independence, the self-catering student house is about 20 minutes’ walk from school. Two rooms are ensuite and the other 2 share a bathroom with everyone sharing a kitchen. We have special rates with local hotels and guesthouse within 5-15 minutes’ walk of school. All offer bed and breakfast, ensuite rooms and wifi.

Eastbourne is a safe, traditional English seaside town famed for its beautiful setting between the rolling green hills of the South Downs national park and the white cliffs of Seven Sisters and Beachy Head. Some of the advantages of Eastbourne include:
- The well-preserved classic Victorian seafront.
- It is very easy to walk around.
- Its great climate – it is renowned as the sunniest town in the UK close to London.
- The international airports of Heathrow and Gatwick are within easy reach of some of the most important places in the last 2000 years of English history.
- It hosts major sports festivals including AEGON International Tennis Tournament on grass courts just before Wimbledon. ELC Eastbourne is right in the centre of town, close to everything.
Exams
ELC Eastbourne runs the following exam preparation courses: Intensive Cambridge exam preparation with separate FCE and CAE classes Intensive IELTS exam preparation. It can also provide preparation for Linguaskills, LanguageCert and Trinity exams.

Social Programme
ELC Eastbourne runs a full programme of afternoon and evening activities Monday to Friday, and full-day guided excursions at the weekends. Our full-time Social Organiser is on site to make sure we offer something for everyone.
