Colón Language Center

Colón Language Center was founded in 1952 and is the largest language school in Hamburg. The school is located in an attractive pedestrian zone in the city center close to the Alster Lake and to a wide range of sightseeing attractions, shopping opportunities and entertainment possibilities. We have 48 classrooms in three historic buildings, over 40 qualified and experienced teachers and, on average, permanently 500 students from 80 countries enrolled in our German courses. Our school specializes in adult education and offers a flexible course system all year round as well as carefully selected accommodation and an attractive activity program. Our long experience of teaching and our fantastic location enables us to offer students a perfect learning and living atmosphere.

Programmes Offered
Colón Language Center offers a flexible course system with 6 levels from A1 to C2 all year round, catering to learners with different schedules and goals. We teach German in small groups with an average of 8 to 10 students and a maximum of 14 students per group. In addition we offer private tuition where students may specialize in any area of the language desired.
General German Courses
General German courses are available on a weekly or monthly basis. They run from Monday to Friday and comprise 10, 25 or 30 lessons per week. Our qualified and experienced teachers teach German in their native language using a structured teaching method. The lessons concentrate on the ability to speak in a variety of everyday situations as well as being able to read and formulate texts. The course price of our German courses in Hamburg includes a voluntary final examination with a Colón certificate at the end of each level.
Exam Preperation
Colón Language Center is also an official TELC testing center and offers a wide range of TELC exams which are often required for official purposes.
German Courses for Specific Purposes
In addition we offer German courses for specific purposes. After class our German immersion school also organizes an attractive programme of cultural and leisure activities, including many one day weekend excursions over the year and a conversation club once per week. A Colón teacher or a Colón guide accompanies the students so that they can further improve their German in their free time.

Homestay
Homestays (minimum age 16/ 20 to 40 minutes away from school): Our hosts offer students a special opportunity to practice their German after school and at the weekends.
Shared Apartments
Shared apartments (minimum age 18/ 20 to 45 minutes away from school): Suitable for students who wish to be independent and to travel on a low budget.
Studio
Studio apartments (minimum age 18): Accommodation in the city center for young people between 18 – 35 years who would like to study and live in Hamburg for a longer period.

Exams
Colón Language Center is an official TELC testing center and offers several times per year the following international recognized TELC exams: TELC A1, TELC A2, TELC B1, TELC B2, TELC C1, TELC C1 Hochschule and TELC C2. The TELC certificates document the language skills in listening, reading and writing of the student and may be presented as official proof of German language skills for study and work. In addition Colón Language Center offers also a voluntary final examination with a Colón certificate at the end of each level.
More Features
Colón Language Center has its own foreign language bookshop, selling modern language learning materials in print, audio and CR-Rom. Teaching materials for the German language course can be supplied by our bookstore.
