Impact English College Brisbane

I was finishing my travels around Australia and felt the need to improve my English and especially my grammar. I heard about Impact English College and its quality on Facebook and so, I decided to come here. Classes are very interactive, the teachers are happy to help you all the time and answer your questions. We do a lot of different activities and challenges that are heaps of fun! You can join a lot of different activities after class as well. During my studies at Impact I stayed at Iglu Brisbane. It is a great student residence, very close to the campus. They organise a lot of activities in the morning and in the afternoon, which helps you to meet even more people from different backgrounds and countries. You can talk with lots of students and make many friends. It’s a great way to keep communicating after classes and keep practicing and improving your English. The apartment is great, very modern and well equipped. We each have our own bedroom, but we meet with roommates in the common area for chatting and cooking meals.

I worked as a digital designer for over 5 years. I came to Australia to improve my English. I decided to study at Impact English College in Brisbane because my agent recommended it as a wonderful school. I made the right choice! I would not hesitate to recommend Impact for anyone who wants to study English; even my girlfriend will do it soon. I had different opportunities to work part-time while I was studying. I worked as a waiter, cook, and dishwasher, among others. There were many opportunities for me, in terms of part-time jobs. I recently got a new job as a digital designer at ECN! After a week of experience, they offered me a sponsorship, and it has been a great experience so far! My advice to people coming to Australia will be “Do not give up and try as many times as necessary“. I probably distributed around 50 resumes and it definitely worked!

I have been studying English for about 9 months at Impact English College. Needless to say, Impact is a fantastic school to learn English as a second language. One thing that I really like about Impact is English Only Policy. As far as I heard, almost all school have this kind of rule, but it does not work. However, I have never heard language other than English in the campus. It definitely helped me improve my speaking skills, and now my strength is speaking although it was my weakness when I first came to Australia. I began studying in General English Intermediate for 10 weeks, and after 4 weeks in Upper-Intermediate, I took the Extreme English course. After that I studied IELTS/EAP course for 10 weeks. I felt that I improved rapidly during this 10 weeks, and I was able to achieve the score of 5.5 in my IELTS exam! My teachers are very organized, knowledgeable and passionate, and they love teaching. Therefore, it was easy to ask them questions, and I could focus on studying as well as enjoying. Thanks to Impact, I will be able to study at Griffith College from June. I did not even consider that I can study at the university before coming to Australia. My life has changed. I am really grateful for my lovely classmates, advises from school advisor, and teachers! I highly recommend to study English at Impact!

I started studying at Impact English College last year. At first, I felt nervous because it was a new experience. I started in Pre-Intermediate class with teachers Nick and Simon, who are both kind and funny. It only took me a few days to adjust and make new friends in my class. I met students from Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Cambodia, Colombia, Mexico, and Chile. This was great being able to interact with people from various countries. During my time at Impact, I realized my pronunciation needed improvement. To address this, I used several applications, joined the pronunciation club at Impact, and received help from my classmates and teachers. After class, my friends and I would go to Charmy to drink beer every Wednesday. These outings provided an excellent opportunity to practice my English speaking skills. On weekends we participated in various activities such as picnics, BBQs, trips to the Gold Coast and New Farm, watching movies at Cineplex South Bank, visiting Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, and hiking Mount Coot-Tha. We spent a lot of time together, and I used English in my daily life.

When I first came to Australia, I had almost zero English communication skills, and I wanted to answer in Japanese when I was asked a question in English at Impact. In the first few months, it was difficult to express my opinion in English, and I think it is a common language barrier to most of international students. However, I thank to the English-only policy (EOP), I tried to communicate in English without escaping to Japanese even though I had poor English ability. At Impact, the staff and teachers are very strict about this EOP and they think it is a very important for students to improve English. I didn’t speak Japanese at all on campus and I was able to stay in completely an English only environment. Don’t worry, you might think it is too strict, but it is certain that you will get used to speak English and your English improve quickly because of this EOP. I used to play rugby at university in Japan, so I got advice from the Impact Student Advisor how to find a team in Brisbane, and now I can play on the local rugby team. The rugby team I belong to is 100 Australians and I am the only Japanese. It’s true that I often don’t know what my teammates are saying due to people have different accents and voice tones. Because of that the teachers at Impact, they speak slowly and clearly and choose simple words to beginners according to the student’s English level. I think that Rugby is the same as learning English like a you will learn “the basics of rugby rules and techniques = English grammar” and you will gain skills by practicing repeatedly. Also, I think it is important to have many opportunities to speak English practically, and it does not mean that “If you know the rules of rugby = you can play well”. I was worried about throwing myself into an environment of Australians only at first, but I have been trained at Impact to think like a “I have to express my opinion in English!”, So I enjoy not only rugby but also interacting with my teammates, and I am living a fulfilling life in Brisbane. When you could communicate well with native speakers, it’s a moment when you can have confidence that your English has improved! I think that repeating this kind of successful experience will lead you to improve your English.

I personally like Impact’s English only rule. It furthered my English skills for real life, not only in the class. I have to always speak in English, even with people from my country. This enabled me to speak English comfortably. I really enjoyed how teachers taught us in the class since they did not only follow the text book but also had many activities and games. I learned English through many of those activities. As there are many students of different nationalities studying at Impact, I have learned to understand other different English-speaking accents. Thus, this will enable me to communicate (in English) with people from around the world easily. When I left Impact, I took the IELTS exam and achieved an overall score of 6.0 and will now study a diploma course at Brisbane School of Beauty!

Hi, I’m Clem! I studied at Impact English College in Brisbane for 12 weeks. I studied in General English Intermediate class and then I moved to Upper Intermediate for my 3 last weeks. I really enjoyed learning at Impact because my teachers were very friendly, and I felt really comfortable in this class. I met a lot of people from different nationalities, so it was very rewarding for me. The best thing about Impact is the “English Only” policy because you have to speak to everyone in English. During the classes, we speak a lot which I think is the best way to improve. I also enrolled in a Demi Pair programme which was a good way to improve my speaking and to learn about informal Australian language. I really improved my English during these 3 months. Thank you, Impact English College, for helping me. I won’t ever forget this experience!

Impactivities are extra free classes that I attend to keep learning English in a more relaxed way, so I go on all activities that I can, including those that seem simple, but not less important, like the Spelling Quiz. Conversation classes allow me to learn and use new vocabulary and I can also meet people from other cultures. Exam Skills and Writing classes are my favourites as I learn about techniques and important tips for increasing my English level. In Study Help, I bring whatever I am not sure about, and have it check with the teacher, including my extra activities and homework. This is a great opportunity to spend time with a teacher exclusively. I realize that I have been improving since I started going to the Impactivities, because in addition to everything I learn during the classes, I expand my knowledge and I am exposed to the language longer, making me practice English more. Impactivities are amazing!

I’ve been studying IELTS/EAP course for almost 4 months at Impact Brisbane. At the beginning it wasn’t easy but everyone here pushes you to achieve your goals. Teachers are awesome as they dedicate both time and energy for you. They give you priceless advice to manage your exams and most importantly in my viewpoint is that they love their job and give you the motivation that you need to improve and succeed with flying colours! As a team, I would say that my teachers and I passed the IELTS exam with a score of 7.5! I met students from everywhere in the world and the only way to share with them was to respect one basic rule: “English Only”! Thank you Impact, for helping me in my Australian adventure.
