Programmes Offered
English in York has over forty years of teaching experience which we use to maximise your learning. All our teachers are qualified and dedicated professionals and are focused on helping you succeed.
We offer General English courses as well as preparation courses for the IELTS exam. All our classes run from Monday to Friday every week year-round. You can choose to study on one of our full-day courses and maximise your learning with 26.25 hours of study each week, with an additional option to take IELTS preparation classes as part of this. For a more relaxed experience, maybe consider our half-day courses, in which you would have your afternoons free to explore the city and surrounding towns while still receiving 15 hours per week of study time.
During class time, your teacher will vary their lessons to focus on four core skills of language learning: speaking, listening, reading and writing, encouraging you to use any new skills in any coursework assigned. We pride ourselves on delivering courses with small class sizes to better focus on the students’ individual needs, expert guidance from our experienced teaching staff, and cultural enrichment provided by our social programme.

Students stay with carefully-selected local hosts—either within walking distance or a short bus ride from the school—enjoying a private bedroom and a dedicated study space. Homestays operate on a half-board basis on weekdays (breakfast and evening meals) and full board on weekends, ensuring students practise their English outside class and get genuine cultural exposure.
For students who prefer hotels or private rentals, the school offers advice and assistance—even though it doesn’t handle bookings directly. Our accommodation programme focuses on comfort, safety, and English immersion, backed by personalised support from our staff.
