English Language Center Announces its Annual UCLA Adult Summer Campus Program at the University of California, Los Angeles

The English Language Center (ELC) is proud to announce its annual University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Adult Summer Campus Program for 2020. This eight-week program gives students the opportunity to improve their English at the number one public university in the United States. The UCLA Adult Summer Campus Program is for English language learners with any level of English proficiency. Students have the opportunity to improve their English in small classes with a diverse mix of students from all over the world.

In addition to living and having classes on campus, students have access to many of UCLA’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center, Ackerman Union, and the John Wooden Center fitness facility. Classes are held in the convenient location of Ackerman Union, directly above the Student Bookstore. In addition to Grammar and Communication Skills classes offered on campus in the morning, optional afternoon classes are offered at ELC’s main campus. Students enrolled in the UCLA Adult Summer Campus Program have the opportunity to take a Reading and Writing course or a TOEFL Preparation course in the afternoon at ELC, a short walk away. Adjacent to Westwood Village, the UCLA campus is located less than 3 miles from Beverly Hills and 8 miles from Santa Monica Beach.

Students can participate in a variety of afternoon activities. There are daily optional afternoon activities to a variety of places around Los Angeles including The Broad, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Griffith Park Observatory, Hollywood Boulevard and the Hollywood Sign, Venice Beach and Canals, Grand Central Market, The Getty Center, and many more. Students also have the opportunity to participate in optional weekend excursions to places such as Disneyland, San Francisco, The Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Dodger Stadium, Universal Studios and Six Flags.

By living on campus, students can enjoy convenience and a sense of community. The dormitory where students stay is situated at the heart of university life and is a short walk away from classrooms, sports facilities, libraries and on-campus shopping.Campus living promotes total immersion as students live and dine with American university students.

Enrolment is open now for the eight-week Summer program, running from June 22 through August 14, 2020. The minimum length of stay is one week.

Kuniaki Taki, current ELC Los Angeles student and former UCLA Adult Summer Campus participant, said “I really enjoyed living on campus and thought the dormitory was a great experience. I got to meet students from all around the world and I enjoyed spending time with Americans. UCLA’s campus is great and I liked that my classes were above the bookstore. The Program Coordinator was wonderful and I had a great time with my teachers in class and with other students at activities.. My English is going to be very good when I leave and I am ready for the TOEFL test!”

ELC operates year-round schools in Los Angeles and Boston and Summer Junior Programs in Los Angeles, Boston and Santa Barbara. It was founded in 1978 in Los Angeles. The UCLA Adult Summer Campus Program has been operating for over 25 years.
