I have been studying English for about 9 months at Impact English College. I started studying at Impact English College last year. At first, I felt nervous because it was a new experience. When I first came to Australia, I had almost zero English communication skills, and I wanted to answer in Japanese when I was asked a question in English at Impact.\u00a0In the first few months, it was difficult to express my opinion in English, and I think it is a common language barrier to most of international students. However, I thank to the English-only policy (EOP), I tried to communicate in English without escaping to Japanese even though I had poor English ability. At Impact, the staff and teachers are very strict about this EOP and they think it is a very important for students to improve English. I didn't speak Japanese at all on campus and I was able to stay in completely an English only environment. Don\u2019t worry, you might think it is too strict, but it is certain that you will get used to speak English and your English improve quickly because of this EOP.\u00a0I used to play rugby at university in Japan, so I got advice from the Impact Student Advisor how to find a team in Brisbane, and now I can play on the local rugby team. The rugby team I belong to is 100 Australians and I am the only Japanese. It's true that I often don't know what my teammates are saying due to people have different accents and voice tones. Because of that the teachers at Impact, they speak slowly and clearly and choose simple words to beginners according to the student's English level. I think that Rugby is the same as learning English like a you will learn \"the basics of rugby rules and techniques = English grammar\" and you will gain skills by practicing repeatedly. Also, I think it is important to have many opportunities to speak English practically, and it does not mean that \u201cIf you know the rules of rugby = you can play well\".\u00a0I was worried about throwing myself into an environment of Australians only at first, but I have been trained at Impact to think like a \"I have to express my opinion in English!\", So I enjoy not only rugby but also interacting with my teammates, and I am living a fulfilling life in Brisbane.
