Auckland has 48 volcanic cones to climb with 360 degree views of the city. Mount Eden (Maungawhau) is Auckland’s highest volcano at 196 meters and was formed up to 30,000 years ago, holding an important place in Māori history. Many visitors like to kayak to the mountain from the harbour and then cycle or walk up to the top of the mountain to overlook the Waitemata Harbour beyond.

2. Discover New Zealand’s Marine Wildlife

Goat Island Marine Reserve is just an hour drive from the centre of Auckland. Whether snorkeling or hopping on the reserve’s glass bottom boat, you will be able to get close to thousands of New Zealand’s colourful fish, dolphins, fur-seals and orca for free!
