Quality Language Schools Worldwide

Elena Tejedor at Aula Inglés, which is located in Madrid, has won this week’s free scholarship at Tamwood Language Centres in Canada.

We spoke to Elena Tejedor to find out more about Aula Inglés and their plans for the 2012 IALC Workshop in Toronto.

Q: Congratulations Elena, you are the first winner of our weekly free scholarship prize draws. How do you feel?

A: I feel very lucky and thankful. I am never that lucky on games.

Q: What are you most looking forward to at the 2012 IALC Workshop?

A: I look forward to meeting the IALC family and do a lot of networking and good contacts. It is going to be my first time in an IALC Workshop and my first time in Canada. Double excited!

Q: At the Workshop you’ll be able to meet over 100 IALC schools, covering nine major languages in destinations across the world. What are your particular interests - destinations, languages, programmes, age-groups?

A: Canada and United States are my priorities in terms of destinations. English as the main language, and adults are our main target group. I always look for programmes with a certain added value regarding activities, general English + something, combining learning English & travelling, etc.

Q: You were established in 2009. How have things changed at the agency since then?

A: We started in the worst period with all the recession but fortunately, we are growing fast. From my previous experience in the market, I feel that the students ask more details before booking so they are sure that they are correctly investing their money and book shorter stays than in the previous years.

Q: Where does the majority of your student business come from e.g. walk-in, word-of-mouth, website…?

A: Our main way of attracting enquiries is our Website. A big part of our budget on marketing goes to search engines optimization. As we are growing as an agency and doing a good job ;-) we have some repeating customers and referees now too.

Q: Has the source of your student business changed for you over the years?

A: We are constantly changing and improving. No other way to survive in these times! Now we are more oriented to the work & study programmes.

Q: What do you see as the biggest challenges in the year ahead?

A: As agencies, we need to offer a high quality counselling service to our students to prove our essential role in this market added value chain. Schools need to provide more support on this. Happiest students are the ones who book through local agents and not directly. They know exactly what to expect from the school, the destination, the accommodation...

Q: Moving on to find out more about you, which is your favourite travel destination?

A: That is a difficult question... My favourite travel destination is that place I have not been before! Always looking for new adventures, that’s me!

Q: Your favourite pastime?

A: The gym. You cannot imagine how creative and problem solving a person can be on an exercise bicycle! And watching movies.

Q: Your favourite song?

A: I love all the Spanish pop music.

Q: Your favourite meal?

A: Without any doubt, it is paella!

Q: Your dream dinner guests?

A: My family and friends.

Thank you Elena and we look forward to meeting you at the IALC Workshop in April.
