January 2011 saw the welcome return of Oxford English Centre’s popular teen programme. This programme is for students aged 14 to 16 and the course consists of a morning social programme, followed by lessons in the afternoons. Over 100 students participated in the programme in January with its mixture of class-based and ’outside’ project lessons. Despite some rainy weather, the students had a fantastic time.
The Royal Wedding: Wills and Kate Tie the Knot
On 29 April 2011 Prince William will be married to Katherine Middleton. This day has been declared a public holiday across the UK.
The Oxford English Centre will be open as usual on this day and has decided to embrace this national event by offering a day of classes and related activities connected with the monarchy, the Royal Family and "Englishness".
Tuition will be based around presentations; web-search based classes, quizzes and an acting company may come to perform some Shakespeare. One to one classes will be taught as usual or made up on other days. In addition the shops and restaurants in North Parade (the small street next to the school) may organise a street party with traditional Morris dancing and a tea party with music!
There is a lot of work to do but the day will be educational and fun and it will be a great opportunity for students to be part of a special cultural event.
