Students win Lions Club award 2015 at the International Night hosted by Phoenix Academy

Phoenix Academy's annual International Night with the Lions Club Perth gives the English language college's students a great opportunity to build their language confidence. During the course of the evening, selected students make a speech on a subject relevant to their country of origin.

Organised by Phoenix Academy, the International Night is a formal event that has been running for more than 20 years. Lions Club members volunteer to help judge the speeches made by the students.

"This year we had student representatives from Colombia, Poland, Mongolia and Brazil talk about subjects such as native animals living in Brazil and the special Christmas celebrations that families take part in, in Poland," says Kate Tarrant. "This is just one of the community engagement events our students are encouraged to take part in to encourage the use of English in real life situations to assist them to develop their confidence and networking skills."

Ronei from Brazil and Klaudia from Poland were joint winners in 2015 and were awarded the perpetual Lions Club International Night Trophy during the tea hosted at Phoenix the following morning.

The Lions Club Australia supports Disaster and Emergency Relief, Medical Research and Community Service. The organisation assists the local community through fund-raising for special causes and helping with the development of local parks, community venues and sport centres.
