An unusual program delivered by Phoenix Teacher Training Division

The Institute for Teaching Excellence (ITE) is a division of Phoenix Academy. The Institute was created in 2008 when the Phoenix Academy Teacher Training arm saw a growing demand for high quality teacher training products particularly for the Asian region.

ITE delivers all forms of teacher training to Australian and international clients and not just TESOL Teacher Training. ITE specialises in short course teacher training that maximises practical teaching practise and feedback.

One of the key products developed by ITE is a teacher training short course program for practising university academics. For the past two years ITE has conducted an innovative Professional Development Program for experienced lecturers from the Shanghai Jianqiao University in China. In the 6-week program delivered in Perth, a group of 20 academics from a range of faculties undertake an intensive Tertiary Teacher Trainer Program. Our partner institutions are Curtin University, the University of Western Australia, Murdoch University and Edith Cowan University. The training program incorporates two- four hour keynote sessions delivered each week by a university academic in a university setting. These keynote sessions are supported by a week of tutorials and workshops lead by Phoenix ITE trainers wrapped around the topic of the week. Topics covered include; internationalisation of the curriculum, tertiary teaching methodology, content based instruction, research methodology, elearning and evaluation & validation. With the skills learned from ITE this university is now welcoming students from Denmark to China and is achieving its aim of becoming a global university.
