The Les Scannell Academic Scholarship was established in 2013 in memory of Robynne Walsh’s father Les who was one of the founding members of Phoenix Academy. The scholarship recognises a student’s ongoing academic achievement as well as their contribution to life at Phoenix Academy and the general community.

This year’s scholarship winner is Rabin Sapkota from Nepal. He was awarded fees credit for two semester Diploma of Business. "Rabin personifies the spirit of the Les Scannell. Not only is he a high achieving student, receiving the DUX award two semesters in a row but he has also proven to be a lively and compassionate class member, taking others under his wing and supporting his peers wherever possible" explains Claire Sprunt from the school.

In Rabin's Diploma of Business class, there are students from Germany, Hong Kong, India, China, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, Scotland and Mauritania. After graduating from Phoenix in 2015, Rabin plans to continue his studies in Perth and to enter the second year of a Bachelor of Business at Murdoch University.
