The 2006 Exeter Festival started with a bang this summer, with a firework display over the River Exe, which runs through the cathedral city in the county of Devon.
The 2-week long festival features a variety of acts, bands, plays, music, street theatre and other entertainment throughout the city and is a popular attraction for overseas students taking English courses at the Globe English Centre in Exeter.
The 2006 Festival took place in July. Most of the events organised were free, from music concerts to outdoor cinemas and street entertainment, and took place in the evening. As always, the festival played a fairly central role in the Globe activities programme, with the Party on the Quay, Shakespeare in the Park and the continental craft market proving very popular with the students. A smaller festival takes place in Exeter in autumn.
