Pope Benedict XVI will visit Regensburg, his home city, on September 12 and 13 during his 2006 official trip to Germany. More than 300,000 visitors are expected to take part in the celebration of the Holy Mass on September 12. Students at the Horizonte German language school in Regensburg will be able to meet the Pope on this day or the following day, when he visits the city.
Regensburg (150,000 inhabitants) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has the largest mediaeval city centre in Germany. Its 25,000 university students create a lively atmosphere and make it a popular place to learn German in Germany. The ultra-modern plants of BMW, Siemens (Osram) and other global players along with modern start-ups (biotechnology) make it one of the fastest growing cities in Germany.
