The English Plus Surfing Course at Coromandel Outdoor Language Centre in New Zealand now features eight beaches. Together, the beaches offer an amazing variety of waves, from small crystal clear tubes to gnarly grinding barrels.
The English Plus Surfing Course is in its fifth year and has attracted students from Japan, Korea, Germany, New Caledonia, Switzerland, Brazil and Tahiti. "The rest of the world is due for a pleasant surprise when it discovers what it has been missing," says Director Maurice Kirby.
The three-week courses take place on set starting dates during the New Zealand summer and follow the school's philosophy of “Learning by Doing”. The Surfing component is part of the English-learning experience. Classroom lessons take place in the mornings, while in the afternoons, the students ride their boards and learn the language of weather and wave forecasting, surf rescue and resuscitation.
