Interview with Sandrine Antoine, Head of France Langue Biarritz

13 April 2013

Quality Language Schools Worldwide

“It is extremely rewarding to be part of IALC and to be supported by such talented industry colleagues around the world.”

France Langue Biarritz is located in the city centre, a short 5-minute walk from the lively Halles neighbourhood and its market, restaurants and cafés, and only 10 minutes’ walk from the Côte des Basques beach, a world-famous surfing spot.

The school itself is a typical Pays Basque house dating from 1850, with the junior school next door, making it a perfect choice for adults, juniors and families alike.

Sandrine Antoine, Head of France Langue Biarritz, presents the school and shares her views on IALC.

Q: Hello Sandrine, when did you join IALC and why?

France Langue has been a member of IALC for over 15 years. And we felt it was essential that our Biarritz branch was also recognised for its quality and dynamism. This is why our Biarritz branch is to become a fully recognised associate member of IALC.

Q: How does it feel to be part of this exclusive global community of quality language schools?

It is extremely rewarding to be part of IALC and to be supported by such talented industry colleagues around the world. IALC standards are high and we are proud to be counted amongst the best language schools.

Q: How is 2013 going for you and how does it compare with last year?

We have seen a good start to 2013, with booking numbers well ahead in comparison to the same time last year. Our move to new premises is an exciting development and we look forward to another great season in Biarritz!

Q: Any new plans for the school?

These are very exciting times for France Langue Biarritz!

The school has been running adult and junior courses in the summer (May to September) for years. Our new premises in the city centre as well as our range of French courses will continue to make Biarritz an attractive study destination. Our main aim is to diversify the nationality mix of our students, to offer quality tuition and to propose varied extra-curricular activities.

Most importantly, we are now looking to develop the school even further and keep it opened year round from 2014 onwards.

Q: Where do the majority of your students come from?

Biarritz is always very popular with Europeans: in 2012 students came from Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Ireland, UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden… But we also welcomed students from Brazil, USA, Russia, and Australia…

Q: What are your most popular student activities?

Surf is by far the most popular! A vast number of our students book our French & Surf programme to make the most of the famous waves of Biarritz. Golf, museum exhibitions and excursions in the Basque country are also classic activities on offer.

Q: Moving on to you, which is your own favourite travel destination?

Warm countries!

Q: Your favourite pastime?

Art exhibitions and movies.

Q: Your favourite meal?

French cooking in general! But as I am very curious, I also like to try dishes from around the world.

Q: Your dream dinner guests?

Salvador Dali and all the surrealist artists.

Q: Finally, what would you say are the main benefits of learning French at France Langue Biarritz?

Biarritz is one of the most welcoming towns in France and the Basque country has a very strong cultural identity and character. Students have the opportunity to discover a beautiful region where ocean and mountains meet, making it an ideal choice for the outdoors activities. From a language point of view, our programmes offer students the option to personalize their course according to their own personal needs and objectives. By choosing France Langue they are guaranteed quality and a warm welcome!

The Basque Country is one of France’s most beautiful regions, and France Langue Biarritz’ prime location in the city centre enables students to make the most of it. Quality French programmes, varied sports & leisure activities as well as personal attention are guaranteed.
