How a language schools amazing adventure is helping children in Kenya

Quality Language Schools Worldwide

A brave and crazy team from IALC member French in Normandy, a French language school in Rouen, France, has just finished the 2016 Mongol Rally, raising €16,000 for Heart Children’s Home in Kenya.

Heart was founded by Julia Steiner, owner of study travel agency Agence Julia Steiner (AJS) in Switzerland, and provides food, shelter, medical care, support and education to approximately 24 children in Malindi, Kenya.

The Rally begins in Europe and finishes in Russia after passing through Mongolia. It is an adventure rather than a race in which the car must be small and rubbish, the teams are totally unsupported and need to raise at least £1000 for charity!

FiN owner Eleri Maitland assembled a valiant team to make the journey in a battered old van they nicknamed The Potato, and set off on 19 July. The rally is not for the faint-hearted - read their blog below!

Remarkably the FiN Potato finished the rally after 15,326 kilometres on 1 September without changing a single tyre! But the engine, gasket and suspension had given them a few challenges along the route.

Home safely, Eleri thanks the IALC language schools and other study travel industry companies and individuals who sponsored FiN on the Mongol Rally. Contributions are still welcome - the funding page is up until 31 October and you can donate below.

The amazing French in Normandy team has already raised more than any other team on the rally, and was filmed for a TV programme about the Mongol Rally for the Discovery /National Geographic channels.
