October 2009 sees BEET English Language Centre celebrate its 30th birthday and ITTC, its teacher training division, celebrate its 25th. The two organisations merged in 2001. “This marriage of expertise and talent has made BEET and ITTC one of best places anywhere in the world to study and learn,” says Richard Davies, head of training at ITTC.
From humble beginnings in a Charminster house with just three students, BEET now has a 45-strong staff base, including teachers and trainers, and at peak times more than 450 students and trainee teachers on its Nortoft Road site. Last year more than 2,000 students came through the doors of its campus, a former Victorian primary school, which has been thoroughly modernised over the years, and has doubled in size.
Following a £50,000 upgrade the school has been fully equipped with the latest in interactive learning technology with Promethean software. BEET teachers have embraced this new technology and the students have all commented how much extra value this adds to the lessons.
