Giralda Center, which is located in the southern Spanish city of Seville, recently joined IALC. It is a popular, high-quality language school offering students the opportunity to learn Spanish in a well-known cultural destination.
We spoke to school director Eduardo Alvarez de Cienfuegos to find out more about Giraldas aims, life in Seville and being a member of the IALC family.
Q: Hello Eduardo, how does it feel to be part of this exclusive group of quality language schools?
A: I am enthusiastic and with reasonable expectations!
Q: How has 2011 been for the school and how is it looking compared to the previous year?
A: As compared to previous years, our growth has slightly slowed down since 2009, due to the global crisis but we are going to have a promising 2012.
Q: You were established in 1983. How have things changed at the school since then?
A: In the early eighties most of our students were German and occasionally American. Spain was an exotic destination at that time; the new democracy and the young Pedro Almodovar were big attractions for our students. Things have changed enormously since then. Now Spanish has become global!
Q: What are your main aims for Giralda Center?
A: That many people get to know what a fantastic place Giralda School is to learn Spanish.
Q: What are the biggest challenges facing your school?
A: To continue our steady path of quality and good human relations!
Q: Which countries do the majority of your students come from?
A: The majority of our students come from Germany, Italy, England and France, and less now than a few years ago, from the USA
Q: What are the most popular student activities?
A: Our students always thoroughly enjoy the famous tapas-nights and activities like learning how to dance Sevillanas, or how to cook a typical Andalusian meal.
Q: Moving on to find out more about you, which is your favourite travel destination?
A: Mauritius Islands.
Q: Your favourite pastime?
A: Walking, cooking, and listening to people.
Q: Your favourite song?
A: I love all kind of music from Baroque to deep techno. Like the sound track of our lives each moment has its own tune for me.
Q: Your favourite meal?
A: A good salad is always welcome: green leaves, red tomatoes from the orchid, nuts, pomegranate, all dressed with Italian aceto balsamico and Spanish Alberquina olive oil.
Q: Your dream dinner guests?
A: Somebody to learn from with passion.
Q: Finally, what would you say are the main benefits of learning Spanish in Giralda Center?
A: The main benefits are simply the enjoyment of learning Spanish at Giralda Center. Our students feel at ease at Giralda Center and establish long-lasting friendships with other students, teachers and staff. By structuring the classes in a very interactive, hands-on way and based on real-life-situations, the students find themselves quickly engaged and motivated. Complemented by extra-curricular activities and events, they learn not only how to speak Spanish, but also get a glimpse of every-day life in Spain. We firmly believe that a language is more than just dominating vocabulary and grammar it is getting to know and understanding the culture and the way and spirit of life of the people.
Giralder Center, which was founded in 1983, is located in the historic centre of Seville and delivers Spanish language courses for all ages.
