Quality Language Schools Worldwide

The Eastbourne School of English in England celebrates the 100th birthday of a former pupil this month. Friedl Theiler from Zurich in Switzerland, who took English language courses at Eastbourne School of English until recently, is 100 years old on 30 August 2007.

Friedl was one of the first students to join the Eastbourne English language school’s popular Fifty Plus English Programme for mature students, which was introduced in the 1980s. She attended the school nearly every year from then on, improving her English and enjoying trips in the Sussex countryside. The last time Friedl took an English course in Eastbourne was in September 2002, when she was 95 years old.

Friedl still lives in Zurich and keeps in regular contact with friends, family and the school in Eastbourne, whose director says that she hasn't forgotten the English she learned there.

The Eastbourne School of English has taught English in England for over 70 years. A non-profit organisation, it is an independent English language school with a commitment to excellence in teaching and care for the welfare of its students.
