There was double success for CIAL Centro de Linguas at the IALC annual general meeting (AGM) in April 2011, as CIAL director Alexandra Borges de Sousa was elected IALC president and CIAL Lisbon was chosen to host the 2013 IALC Workshop.

Alexandra is the second child of an IALC founder to follow her father’s footsteps and become IALC president. The first was Juan Manuel Sampere, who took on the presidency in the 1990s, a decade after his father, Alberto Sampere, served as IALC’s first president.

CIAL, which operates Portuguese language schools in Lisbon and Faro, presented a competitive bid to host the 2013 IALC Workshop in Lisbon, meaning that IALC’s 30th Anniversary Workshop will take place at a founding member school.

The AGM elected Florian Meierhofer of BWS Germanlingua to the role of Vice President - Membership. Walter Denz of Liden & Denz stepped down from the Board after six years of service including three years as president from 2008-2011.

Shanghai also saw the official launch of the 2012 IALC Workshop in Toronto, Canada. The Workshop takes place from 19-22 April and is hosted by LSC Language Studies Canada, which marks 50 years of English and French language teaching in Canada in 2012.
