Coromandel Outdoor Language Centre has introduced an environmental awareness course to meet the high demand for English language courses at the popular New Zealand school, which has just five classes and a maximum of 10 per class. Up to nine students in three higher-level classes take their morning lessons outside the classroom, examining local environmental issues, meeting experts and visiting various sites.
As part of the course, students get to observe Whitianga’s beach preservation, the damage caused by gold mining, and the determined efforts to save the Kiwi, the rare bird which symbolises New Zealand, and the beautiful Kauri tree. This English language course combines the classroom experience with an opportunity to practise English with new people and in new places.
