Quality Language Schools Worldwide

GSE recently opened a new English language school in Edinburgh to complement their existing school in Glasgow, offering students a further option when choosing to study English in Scotland.

Today we spoke to Andrew Lennox, Director at GSE, to find out a little more about the new school.

Q: Hello Andrew. How has the year been so far for Glasgow School of English?

A: Once again the school in Glasgow has increased its numbers having its best year since opening in 1997. We are full until the middle of August and we are dealing with over 200 students a week.

Q: How has the project been, opening a new school?

A: The biggest problem was to establish an appropriate property that suited our needs. This was found and the let contract negotiated and agreed very late on, so it was a very tense time to ensure everything was ready for opening on the 5th July. However due to the hard work of a number of people it was ready and we started with 3 classes on the 5th July.

Q: Is the school located in central Edinburgh, near all the cities amenities?

A: The location is very attractive and convenient for students. Waverly Station is only 10 minutes walk away and the new tram system that will connect the airport with the city centre, will run past the schools front door.

Q: How far is it from the airport?

A: Edinburgh airport is only 25 minutes drive by bus to the city centre. When the tram system is operating this will reduce to journey time to 10/15 minutes.

Q: What’s on offer in the area?

A: Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and has the Scottish Parliament. Edinburgh has 5 of the top 10 visitor attractions in Scotland.

Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh Bus Tours, Dynamic Earth, Royal Yacht Britannia. In July/ August of each year the International Festival and Military Tattoo takes place in the castle.

The city has many different ethnic restaurants, pubs, clubs and places of entertainment.

Q: Could you tell us a bit about the accommodation and facilities?

A: The school can pre book accommodation for any student. Airport pick up can also be arranged and the student is taken from the airport directly to the chosen accommodation. Accommodation options include student residences on a self catering basis, home stay, bed and breakfast and 5* hotels. Very cheap accommodation can be found in back packers hostel accommodation if wanted.

Q: Increasingly access to the worldwide web is important for students. What internet facilities do you have at the school?

A: The school provides, free-of-charge, access to PC’s and WiFi is available throughout the school.

Q: What courses are you offering?

A: The courses being offered are the same as are offered in Glasgow. For individuals, General English, Academic English, Examination Preparation such as IELTS, TOEIC and CAE/FCE and Business English. For groups, English plus Golf, English plus Football Academy, TKT Teachers training and Young Learner Programmes.

Q: Do you have any special offers or last minute deals this summer?

A: Our course fees are very competitive so we do not offer any further discounts.

Q: Finally, what would you say is your unique selling point (USP), not just about the school, but about studying in Scotland?

A: Our USP is that we offer high quality teaching in a high spec. learning environment at very affordable prices.

Three words sum up the school: Welcoming, International and Value for money.
