IALC President: Robin Adams, Centre of English Studies

As the son of a diplomat, Robin grew up in different countries and attended international schools in Austria and Germany. He has certificates in TEFL, a Bachelor of Arts, Honours English from the University of Victoria, Canada and a Master of Education from the University of Sheffield, England.

Robin first developed a passion for the language industry teaching in Korea and Germany and has been involved in Educational Marketing since 2001. He is currently the President for CES North America and looks forward to learning from and building on the successes of his predecessors at IALC. He is married with two children and his hobbies include karate, languages and travel.

Vice President - Quality Assurance: Kevin McNally, TIS, Torquay International School

Kevin has been involved in the language travel industry for over 25 years. For many years, he was Director and Partner in Hampstead School of English, before taking up his current role as Owner and Director of Torquay International School. Kevin has experience in almost every aspect of the industry, from academic and student services, to finances and marketing. Having been involved with IALC since 1996, he has an intimate knowledge of the history of the association.

Vice President - Marketing: Anna Bell, Langports

Anna Bell, the CEO of Langports began her career in the International Education industry as a young girl learning from her father and founder of Langports John France. As a homestay sister she saw the difference that learning English makes to international students visiting Australia. In January 2005 she began her journey at Langports as the Junior Receptionist. Over the past 15 years, Anna has worked in many roles at Langports looking after students and college operations, then moving into the marketing team. In 2019, Anna took on the role of CEO at Langports and strongly believes in improving students’ lives through international education.

Vice President - Workshops: Bernhard Roters, CLIC

Bernhard grew up in a small rural village in Münsterland, Germany. He studied at Cologne University and he has a degree in Translation. His first formal job was at the Spanish Embassy in Bonn where he worked mainly with Andalusian Immigrants. In the early 1980s, as a global traveller, Bernhard came to Sevilla and experienced how a young man can fall in love with a city. Two years later, he founded CLIC Centro de Lenguas e Intercambio Cultural, an international language school, which now has 3 branches in the ‘golden triangle’ of Sevilla, Cádiz and Málaga. Bernhard joined IALC in 2015 and strongly believes in associative work within the industry. He enjoys travelling, horse-riding, nature, pets and meeting people from all over. He has two children and his daughter Blanca will follow in his footsteps.

Vice President - Membership: David Sampere, France Langue

David Sampere grew up in a language learning atmosphere, first learning abroad experience in France at 9, he has been studying French and then English in different IALC schools. With a double Degree in International Business from ESC Bordeaux and Universidad Nebrija, David's focus is on Sales and Marketing. Before arriving in the language sector, he developed different companies in Spain, from Speed Camera detectors to Premium Electric bikes. In 2009 he started working at Estudio Sampere as Sales Manager, then in 2013 he made the jump to France and France Langue. He has been involved in the IALC Membership Committee for the last 7 years and considers himself a “Grandson of IALC”

Treasurer: Alexandra Borges de Sousa, CIAL Centro de Linguas

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Alexandra has a degree in International Relations as well as post graduate studies in this area. Her involvement in languages started early on, when she studied English, French and Spanish in the family’s school CIAL, a leading name for Portuguese as a Foreign Language since the early 1970s. Alexandra joined the school in 1991 after graduating. She also worked in the organisation of Expolingua Portugal, Portugal’s language fair, from 1989 to 1998. Since then, she has devoted herself full-time to CIAL, fulfilling the roles of marketing, course organisation and supervision. Alexandra served as IALC President from 2011 - 2014.

Timothy Blake

Timothy Blake is the Chairman of The London School of English Group, which has two IALC schools – The London School of English in London, founded in 1912, and The London School of English, Canterbury, an IALC associate centre in Canterbury, one hour from London.   They have been members of IALC since 2003.   Although he originally qualified as a lawyer, Timothy has been in English language teaching all his life, always with The London School of English, which he joined in 1970. 

During his time with the school he has worked in every aspect of the business including teaching, finance, and sales and marketing, all of which laid the foundation for general management.  These days he has no operational role in the company and has only strategic involvement, although as the owner of the company he naturally retains a keen interest in its activities.  

The London School of English has always been a committed member of IALC and recently Timothy was pleased to be able to use his joint background in law and in language teaching to help to revise the IALC Constitution and other legal documents.  It was in recognition of this work that he was made an Honorary Associate in 2018.
