Emerald’s UK multi-activity and intensive English programmes takes place in a wonderful boarding school in central Ascot, in beautiful Royal Berkshire. One of the UK’s most prestigious schools, St George’s dates back to 1877and has a rich history with ex-pupils including Winston Churchill and Princess Beatrice. Our students enjoy a varied programme of exciting in-school activities on a beautiful campus that is just a short train journey away from central London. Trips to the city will include popular attractions such as the London Eye and the Tower of London. Guided by our activity leaders, students will explore unique local sites such as Windsor and Winchester. Highlights

  • Sports and Recreation: St George’s School has fantastic sports and leisure facilities. There is something for everybody and a full activity programme with lots of exciting, varied choices, ensuring that students can participate with enthusiasm. Facilities include: Large and well-equipped sports centre, Dance studio, Drama studio, Art rooms, Cooking room, Tennis courts, Several playing fields and sports pitches. Indoor 25 metre swimming pool, Astro pitches (all weather)
  • Laundry facilities and Linen: students can have their personal laundry washed once a week by school staff. Students will be told which day their laundry is collected. Bed linens are changed every Sunday.
  • Classes: all classrooms are spacious, airy and have either interactive whiteboards or overhead projectors.
  • Meals: students are provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner on campus and will have packed lunches when on full-day excursions days. The food at St George’s is prepared by year-round school staff and is of a high quality. They are happy to cater for most specialist dietary requirements. (Please notify us in advance if a specialist diet is required)

Programmes offered

At St George’s School we provide our Multi-Activity Programme and our Intensive English Course. The multi activity programme combines our general language course with a full programme of extra-curricular activities suitable for junior students. Aimed at students aged between 9 and 17 years, this course is ideal for students who want to learn English while enjoying lively, interesting and interactive activities and sporting activities.

Our offer includes 15 hours of quality English lessons per week, as well as residential accommodation, excellent facilities and plenty of afternoon activities. The Intensive English course adds an extra 6 hours of English classes per week which focus on speaking and listening skills.

The afternoon activities on campus will enable students to participate in a choice of sports including, football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, cricket, badminton, baseball and rounders. Other afternoon activities will include; dance, drama, cooking and a variety of arts and crafts. Fun evening activities will enable all the students to come together and enjoy a range of lively events including talent and fashion shows, discos and karaoke, quizzes and scavenger hunt.

The St George’s programme also offers one full day excursion and two half-day excursions per week. The full-day excursions will visit London and include great attractions such as The London Eye, The Tower of London and the Thames River Cruise and Greenwich observatory.

Half-day excursions will be to places of interest and fun in the surrounding area, such as Windsor, Winchester and Guildford.

Accommodation

  • Accommodation on Campus will be in one of our three boarding houses onsite, with a total capacity of circa 150 beds.
  • All boarding house have large, comfortable common rooms with TV’s, DVD’s and often a piano. These cosy rooms give students an opportunity to relax during their free time and are perfect for students to get together and make new friends.
  • Entrance to the building houses is by secure key codes.
  • Wi-Fi is available in all boarding houses.
  • A lockable wardrobe is available for each student
  • New Loveday has 15 rooms and is generally set aside for group leaders and staff.
  • Old Loveday has 20 beds and is our smallest house. Often we place older students here.
  • Knatchbull has 61 beds and is our boys house
  • Markham has 68 beds and is our girls house

All accommodation is a mix of single, twin, three and four bedded rooms. Bathrooms are shared and are modern and plentiful.

Local area

St George’s is set in 30 acres of stunning grounds with magnificent views. Ideally located, St George’s is close to major tourist attractions such as Windsor Great Park, Thorpe Park, Oxford and less than 25 miles from London.

 It is situated a mere 6 miles from Windsor Castle and has always enjoyed a close relationship with the Royal Family. The County of Berkshire is a particularly beautiful area of the United Kingdom. As well as the many miles of country park owned by the Windsor Estate, Ascot is adjacent to Bracknell Forest, the stunning lakeside area of Virginia Water and the River Thames. St George’s is positioned in a beautiful location, with a stunning, panoramic view of Swinley Forest to the south. Emerald students will enjoy exclusive use of all facilities and the full benefit of the 30 acres of uninterrupted greenspace owned by the school

Transport The school is a 15 minute walk from Ascot train station, 6 miles from Windsor and just 30 minutes from central London.
