Quality Language Schools Worldwide
alpha.b Institut Linguistique alpha.b offers French language courses with a wide range of accommodation choices and a varied activity programme. Courses are suited for all needs and student profiles. The school is run by a French-German management, Pascal Richez and Anja Denysiuk, partners in business, and life.
About Nice Nice is the capital of the French Riviera, well known for its life style, artists and museums, universities and Mediterranean micro climate.
About yourself Q. Languages you speak or would like to speak? I speak German (as my mother tongue), French and English. I would really much like to review my Spanish which unfortunately has become quite rusty. Then I would like to speak Russian since my origins are Ukrainian. Q. Favourite travel destination? Corsica is one of my favourite places. You have 7 different landscapes and climates on one same island and for every place I have great souvenirs with my family. Then I very much like traveling to Great Britain. All this green you see when sitting in the train is something so soothing. Q. Favourite pastime? Being with my horses and poneys. I’m a horse addict and I made my poor family join me into that. They actually have no choice since I’m the president of a horse riding club and there is always something to do. Q. Favourite meal? I would say Lasagne but I rarely eat it (I have to be reasonable) and so it’s rather fish and mussels. Q. Dream dinner guest(s)? This is really Pascal, Basil and Lena (my husband and my two kids). Dinner is the time we all meet and where discussions and a good laugh are the best ingredients.

This month, we speak to Anja Denysiuk, who runs alpha.b Institut Linguistique and who tells us about the school and how it feels to be part of IALC.

Q. Hello Anja, When did you join IALC and why?

We joined IALC in 2003. So this year, we are celebrating our 10 years as an IALC member along with our 20th anniversary.

When the opportunity came for a second school to join IALC in Nice (there was a different territory plan in place that time), we were very happy because we had been working hard on aligning our brand and our vision with quality for a long time.

Q. What do you like most about being part of this exclusive global community of quality language schools?

I simply adore everything, especially meeting nice, fantastic and brilliant people and being able to share and advise on any subject without any negative feeling of competition.

Q. How is 2013 going for you, and how does it compare to last year?

2013 is a good year and we are more than pleased with that given that. We had a bit of a disaster in 2012 with the liquidation of a partner agency, alpha.b being on top of the creditor list. But we have been able to compensate for this loss and I have to admit that panic has turned into pride.

Q. What are the main challenges you have to face in France at present?

We have to face a sensible increase in the cost of employment and social claims going along with it.

Q. What are your main aims for alpha.b this year?

The first aim is to fully absorb the hole in cash flow we experienced last year while keeping high quality services. And of course celebrating happily our 20th anniversary!

Q. Anything new this year? If so why did you innovate? Can you already measure positive returns?

We started offering one free afternoon per week. During this time students (places are limited) can practise grammar with a teacher. This was set up to meet students’ needs and to offer an additional service. The feedback is very positive and this will certainly be continued.

Q. Where do the majority of your students come from?

Our students are mainly coming from European countries.

Q. What are your most popular student activities?

Student like the classic outings, like visiting Monaco and Cannes which are the most famous places in the neighbourhood. They also enjoy wine and cheese tasting and during the summer diving and parasailing are definitely favourite activities.

Q. Finally, what would you say are the main benefits of learning French at alpha.b?

Learning the language in an open-minded environment where confidence and flexibility are the leitmotiv. Knowing that there is a solution to any problem.
