Learn Spanish in Valencia, Spain!

Valencia is one of the oldest cities in Spain, spanning over 2100 years ago. Founded in the year 138 B.C by the Romans. Valencia is now Spain’s third largest city, lying on the Mediterranean coast with a population of around 800,000.

There is so much to do in this sun-soaked city. Weeks before the Las Fallas festival, the  mascletà takes place every day for five minutes. A mixture of noise, smoke, and rhythm is not to be missed. Stroll the streets of Valencia and take a look at the 750 monuments that fill the city with satire and humour. Enjoy the lovely smell of fresh flowers brought to the plaza for the Ofrenda (ritual offering). Enjoy nights filled with eye catching fireworks, music, and parties. All of this is just during the Fallas.

Shopping in Valencia’s intense commerce is a fusion between tradition and modernity. Treat yourself to an afternoon of shopping in the historic centre, el Carmen, Ruzafa or Eixample, with choice of international brands and creations of Valencian designers. Shop at flea markets of the old quarter or the chic fashion districts of Paz, Poeta Querol and Plaza Del Ayuntamientio, where fashion aficionados will find the best designer brands. Other lively areas crammed with shops and cafes include Colon and Eixample. Visit the hidden silk road. This is a two-hour walking tour where you’ll have an insight of the beginning of silk exchange to it all ending in the costume shops.

Explore Valencia

Looking for something more active and with nature? Students can spend an afternoon cycling through the Turia Garden from east to west. Here the old riverbed of Turia was converted into a leafy 9km garden connecting to the Parc de Dapcalera with the city of arts and sciences. This is a great opportunity to discover fantastic museums, monuments, and bridges.

Climb 207 steps to reach the top of Miguelete tower and allow the 360-degree view of the city take your breath away.

Just outside Valencia, the picturesque Albufera Natural Park is a hallmark of environmental preservation and home to Spain’s largest lake and wetlands. Enjoy a beautiful sunset while touring through it by boat. Valencia’s many must-see monuments include the Cathedral, which houses a chalice reputed to be the Holy Grail, and the Serranos Towers, one of the 12 medieval gates of the city.

Dine the Valencian Way!

Let’s talk food. Grilled cuttlefish, steamed mussels, Serrano ham, clams, “esgarraet” and baby squid are just a few of the mouth-watering dishes Valencia has to offer. Start your food journey in Valencia at the stalls of Plaza del Mercado, continue past the Lonja steps, the Plaza del Collado, Plaza Negrito and Calle Caballeros, finishing at Plaza de la Virgen. 

Valencia has a reputation for a vibrant nightlife. Start your wild night with dinner by the sea, followed with drinks at a terrance in el Carmen and end up dancing till sunrise. Valencia offers students with a diverse nightlife that lasts all year round due to the good climate.

Stroll along the Paseo Marítimo, a 4-km palm tree-lined promenade along the beaches or enjoy cycling through the Turia Gardens and Cabecera Park and out along the coast, passing beautiful medieval architecture and monuments before enjoying stunning sea views – just one of several planned routes the city offers.

Calling all sports fans!

Valencia is famous in the world of sports. Sporting events of all types are constantly taking place. Home to the Tennis Open 500, MotoGP Championship, and first division football, that makes the Mestalla and Ciudad de Valencia stadiums tremble. From mid-August until the start of June, you can attend Valencia CF and Levante UD matches and cheer on some of the world’s best players. 

Valencia's coastal setting makes it perfect for all water sports, as well as simply lazing on the beach! So why not have a go at jet-skiing, water-skiing, windsurfing, or sailing while you’re improving your Spanish in Valencia!
