Learn Russian in Irkutsk, Russia
Liden & Denz has opened a new campus in Irkutsk (Eastern Siberia) in early summer 2017.
Irkutsk is 5000 km east of Moscow - a six-hour flight from the Russian capital. By contrast, Irkutsk-Beijing will take less than 3 hours.
Irkutsk is a popular stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway and most travellers take the opportunity to spend a few days or weeks here on the long trip to the Pacific or to China. Lake Baikal - the must-see tourist attraction in this region – is less than an hour’s drive from the city. The deepest and oldest freshwater lake in the world, and a UNESCO world heritage site, Lake Baikal is 700 km long and covers an area larger than Belgium.
Our Irkutsk campus is located in the historical city centre in a characterful 19th century building refurbished to our design.

Liden & Denz have fantastic learning facilities, great teachers and the perfect atmosphere to learn Russian. Last year I stayed with them in Moscow and this year I studied in Irkutsk. Both experiences were amazing! I highly recommend them!

Living in a host family has major advantages such as applying the newfound language skills and experiencing Russian everyday life. The hosts are chosen for their understanding and sociability. They will try to help you with your Russian and take time to talk to you. We offer B&B (bed & breakfast) and half board (breakfast & dinner) single room accommodation. If you’re travelling with a partner or a friend, we will do our best to provide a double room on request.
To ensure a true student experience, opt for the shared flat. In every flat there are 3 or 4 single bedrooms with one shared kitchen and bathroom. Washing machine, bed linen and free Wi-Fi are provided in the apartment. All shared flats are self-catering.
If you’re looking for a hostel or a hotel, upon request we are pleased to find a suitable option for our list of carefully selected properties.
If you need your own space, we can help you find a reasonable and rentable apartment in the city. Prices of properties vary on location and are similar to mid range hotel rooms.
The institute of Liden & Denz is located in the city centre of Irkutsk, the Eastern Siberian capital. It is situated in an historical building on the corner of Gryaznova ulitsa and ulitsa Karla Marksa. Ulitsa Karla Marksa is one of the most beautiful streets in Irkutsk, which is inspired by the Nevsky Prospect in Saint Petersburg. The Angara River and the monument of Alexander III are within walking distance, as well as the popular pedestrian zone of the Fashion Block with its restaurants and cafés. Local museums are easily accessible by public transport, with he nearest bus stop located directly in front of our campus.
Exam options TRKI exam is an official state testing system created in the 1990s to assess foreign students’ command of Russian. Ever since it has been mandatory for international students who aim at being enrolled in Russian universities. The TBU/TEU/TRKI certificates are also widely recognised by major Russian employers and will enhance your CV should you be pursuing a career in Russia. The six levels (ТЭУ, ТБУ, ТРКИ-1, ТРКИ-2, ТРКИ-3, ТРКИ-4) correspond to CEFR. The language skills are tested in all aspects, e.g. Grammar and Vocabulary, Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. TRKI exams are challenging and tend to be more academic than communicative and thus require specific preparation. Booking at least 1 preparation module (5 individual lessons) is compulsory for all candidates taking the exam with Liden & Denz. The exact number of modules required in order to pass a certain level is jointly determined by the student and the teacher. The preparation course includes going over the mock exam with your tutor, eliciting the strong and weak points and targeting the latter. Statistically, the most challenging part of the exam is writing. There are techniques and methods to adjust the student’s language skills to the exam requirements and make a student aware of the exam structure, procedure, and other pragmatic issues. The exam can be passed online or in our campus in St. Petersburg. The exam (both in-house and online) can be booked in advance or last-minute but not later than 5 working days prior to the examination date.
Learning Russian in the classroom is just one part of the experience, living is Russia is the other one. It is important to see a lot from the country and the culture. That is why we designed a wide variety of free or inexpensive activities that will help to broaden your knowledge of Irkutsk, discover the amazing Baikal area and make you talk in real life situations. From cooking classes and museum visits to weekend trips to Baikal, there is something for everyone!
