A new Tourist Advice Card offers travellers staying in Mexico City’s hotels free health insurance.

After the outbreak of swine flu in México, tourism has taken a fall. In response, Mexico City has become the first in the world to offer a system specifically for tourists to obtain medical care for problems that arise during their trip.

The scheme is subsidized by The Ministry of Tourism of Mexico City and aims to increase confidence in the tourism industry by offering as a free or subsidized service: medical assistance in case of swine flu or any other disease or accident, hospital accommodation, emergency dental care and home transportation in case of illness, plus a range of other services including call centres with nurses who speak English, French, German and Portuguese as well as Spanish.
