The River Wear flows through the city and the Durham Regatta, known as the “Henley of the North”, is held in June every year. It is an excellent day out for city residents and students. Sport lovers should also visit Durham County Cricket Club. Durham University’s Botanic Garden offers beautiful landscapes to explore and Wharton Park provides spectacular views over the city.

Visitors to nearby Hamsterley Forest can enjoy 2,000 hectares of woodland and a variety of activities, including walking, cycling and horse riding. Durham Coast, with its rugged cliffs and stunning views, is known internationally for its rare plants and wildlife.
