St Paul’s Bay is the largest town in the Northern region of Malta. Traditionally known as a fisherman’s village, this large and popular area of Malta is both picturesque and full of attractions allowing for easy access to some of Malta's finest scenery and rocky beaches. The beaches are a great place to relax, soak up the sun and meet new people.
What to do in St Paul’s Bay
The beautiful old town still has a lot of its traditional Maltese qualities, with some impressive 18th-century buildings and piazzas to visit accompanied by a great selection of first-rate restaurants and cafes. St Paul’s is located in one of Malta’s most picturesque spots and the surrounding countryside offers a huge system of footpaths and bike trails to discover, while the crystal-clear waters off the coast are perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving. With its prime position in the north of the island, St Paul’s also makes the ideal base for day trips to the rest of Malta’s many attractions.
Wignacourt tower was the first of the six watchtowers built during the reign of Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt. With construction completed in 1610, it is the oldest surviving tower in Malta.
If you decide to study in St Paul’s Bay, you will be lucky to experience a traditional Maltese Festa (a village feast). St Paul’s Bay is the only village in the area to celebrate a Festa.
How about a boat tour? Hop on a tour to the beautiful blue lagoon from St Paul’s Bay seafront. Though labelled a seaside town, St Paul’s Bay and its rocky coastline doesn’t offer much in terms of sandy beaches. But we got you covered with the few places you could visit for a nice swim during your days off. Bajja tax-Xama is the only spot that has a bit of a sandy beach which rarely gets busy. Next is Bajja ta’ l-Għażżenin. A popular swimming area for locals who love spending a day by the sea. Although rocky, there are a few handy ladders by the shore that make it easy to enter the water.

Food in St Paul’s Bay will leave you spoilt for choice. Many restaurants cater to different cuisines, such as Mediterranean, Italian, Asian and Turkish. But let’s talk specifics. During your stay bless your mornings with some freshly baked Maltese bread from the Gormina bakery on the main road of St Paul’s Bay. Try a Hobz Biz Zejt, this is a traditional local ftira sandwich with tomato paste, olive oil, capers, and tuna chunks. Best enjoyed with a cold can of Cisk (local larger).
