Lit in Olympia, Greece, the torch carrying the Olympic flame passed through York on 19 June. IALC English language school, Melton College in York, reports that the Olympic torch travelled along the medieval city walls and then entered York racecourse on horseback!

On 19 July the flame also arrived in Canterbury, home to IALC member Canterbury Language Training and the IALC Secretariat, passing in front of CLT’s front door. The photograph shows the Olympic Torch, carried by one of the 8,000 torchbearers, passing CLT (the cream coloured building on the left).

The flame’s 70-day journey crossed the length and breadth of the UK to bring the spirit of the Games to all. The flame’s final destination was the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony at the Olympic Stadium. The rest, as they say, is history.
