Founded in 1985, LSI Portsmouth is a large, independently-managed English language school in Portsmouth, on the beautiful South Coast of England. We have a reputation for academic excellence and for putting students’ needs first. We believe in giving our students personal care and attention and have created a friendly, welcoming and supportive atmosphere throughout the school.
LSI offers Executive English, General English, 30+ General and Business English, IELTS, OET and Cambridge Exam Preparation and University pre-Sessional Programmes. Outside of the classroom, we encourage you to join in our varied social programme – to make your English language immersion stay memorable and enjoyable and to make friends. Portsmouth is a fantastic place to learn English, an island city with loads of green spaces, plus history, culture and nightlife.
Our Teaching Approach at LSI Portsmouth
Our teachers try to make learning fun and enjoyable as well as helping you to reach your academic goals. Over the years, LSI has developed a substantial resource of in-house materials of which we are especially proud. Our highly qualified teachers try to keep learning activities as varied and as stimulating as possible. During your English language immersion stay, we will do all we can to make your goals a reality.
Courses offered:
We offer full-time General English, as well as IELTS and Cambridge Exam preparation courses, and General English + Business English.
We also offer a 30+ General English course created exclusively for adults over 30. This programme consists of morning classes with optional afternoon electives, offering you flexibility during your language stay.
LSI specialises in the design of specifically-tailored Business English courses on a one-to-one or small group basis. The courses are essentially practical and are designed to improve communicative performance in a wide range of professional, business and commercial contexts.
We also offer Pre-Sessional courses offering a direct progression route with the University of Portsmouth, as well as other university pathways.
We are an OET test centre and offer full- and part-time OET courses.
We understand how important it is for you to be happy where you are living while you are studying with us during your English language stay. Our accommodation department will do everything they can to give you the best option to suit your needs and to help support you with your living arrangements.
There are very few language schools in our city, so we have the choice of some of the very best homestay families, and living with an English family is an ideal way to improve your English and learn more about British life and culture. If you prefer to be more independent and to cook for yourself, we have self-catering student houses, both within 2 minutes’ walking distance of school.
Portsmouth is a vibrant and historic university city by the seaside. Our English language school is right in the heart of the university area, close to many bars, restaurants, cafes and shops.
Our beautiful island city is home to some incredible music festivals and events throughout the year. From free live music throughout summer at the Victorian Bandstand, to Victorious festival held every August right next to the seaside, there’s always something happening here. The nightlife is great in Portsmouth, and with a student population of over 20,000, there’s always something to do.
If you prefer something more cultural, there are several concert halls, theatres and a contemporary art gallery, with interesting events all year round. Portsmouth is famous for its rich naval and maritime history, home to the famous Historic Dockyards and Mary Rose Museum.
Portsmouth is also well-situated to visit London, which is just 90 minutes away by train, and is approximately 75 minutes from both Heathrow and Gatwick Airport and only 20 minutes from Southampton Eastleigh Airport.
Our English language school in Portsmouth has a reputation for academic excellence and offer courses for IELTS, OET and Cambridge Exam preparation.
Our IELTS course focuses on all the skills required for the exam, and LSI is a British-council approved IELTS test centre. Our Director of Studies for Exam Courses is a published IELTS author and teacher trainer.
We also offer Cambridge Exam Preparation courses and guarantee to run The First Certificate (FCE) Advanced (CAE) and Proficiency (CPE) preparation throughout the year. Our courses are designed specifically to help you learn and improve the language skills necessary to get the possible grade in your chosen exam. Students can take the test at LSI at the end of their preparation course.
OET is the fastest-growing English test for medical professionals. LSI offers intensive and part-time courses to students and is also a registered test centre.
Students can also prepare for and take the BULATS test at LSI Portsmouth.
