New Heart Foundation takes on 10 more children at school in Kenya

A school that has been built for children in Kenya with the support of IALC-accredited schools will be taking on 10 more students in January 2020.

The New Heart Foundation was founded in August 2018 by Julia Steiner, owner of study travel agency Agence Julia Steiner (AJS) in Switzerland and two Italian ladies who helped create, fund and run, a “safe house/school” for some of the children of the poorest areas outside of Malindi in Kenya.

This is one of the new students who will start at the school. The mother has had several kidney issues which has rendered her not able to work because she cannot even walk upright.

The school will have a total of 30 children in January aged between 4 and 12 years old who will start in Year 1 Kindergarten as they have either never, or hardly ever, been in a school. However, many of the current students were split in to two classes after making a whole year’s progress in just one term.

This young girl in the skirt will start in January. Her parents are old and jobless.

Some of the children are starting to speak English with the help of the dedicated teachers and English TV programmes shown to them on the TV in the school. The school also has a music centre as the children love to sing and dance and they had absolutely nothing to make some music.

Last Christmas, the children were taken to the beach situated 7kms away from New Heart as a treat as most of the children had never seen the sea that they live so close to!

The support of the following IALC schools have helped fund the running of New Heart: BWS, ELC Brighton, ELC Eastbourne, The English Language Centre Bristol, French in Normandy, Inforum Education Australia, Sydney English Academy SEA, Dialoge Lindau and CES Toronto.
