2012 IALC Workshop Toronto Report

Quality Language Schools Worldwide

IALC schools from 22 countries and study travel agents from 33 countries converged in Toronto for the 29th annual IALC Workshop on 19-22 April 2012.

The Workshop was hosted by IALC’s Canadian member, Tamwood Language Centres, who presented their new school in Toronto to agent delegates.

In total 98 IALC schools showcased their programmes and facilities, with 96 agents flying in for a packed schedule of meetings, networking and evening entertainment.

New IALC members attending for the first time were Giralda Center and Taronja schools in Spain, ESE and ETI in Malta and Jeffreys Bay in South Africa.

The Workshop was supported by nine exhibitors including eBECAS, Thebing Software, PPI and the 2012 Workshop official sponsors Guard.Me, Student Marketing and IELTS.

The programme at Westin Harbour Castle Hotel began with agent seminars on Work Opportunities for Young Internationals in Canada and English Language and Academic Study in Canada. There followed two days of Workshop appointments and three evening events, presenting the host school and city. The Welcome Reception was at the stunningly designed Royal Conservatory of Music where guests were entertained by RCM student opera singers. The Tamwood Language Centres party on the second evening took place at the famous Steam Whistle Brewery, with guests participating in a number of fun activities to reflect the energy of Toronto, from an ice hockey shooting lesson from Toronto Maple Leaf ex-player and legend, Pat Boutette, to a “Tamwood Idol” group singing contest which was very entertaining.

The 2012 IALC Gala Dinner saw Tamwood present agents with scholarship prizes from the weekly draws that took place in the weeks leading up to the Workshop. There were energetic performances in between courses from drum troupe, “Samba Style” and dancing from “Concrete Stylez” - a local professional breakdance crew.

The choice of venues, events and performances gave a snapshot of the diverse nature of this truly cosmopolitan, outgoing and welcoming Canadian city.

After the Workshop agent fam trips took place to IALC schools in Canada and leisure tours visited Toronto, Niagara Falls and Niagara wineries.

The IALC Workshop in Toronto was an ideal platform for schools and agents to meet and do business. The fun and lively atmosphere meant new friendships were forged while existing friends reunited. The positive feedback from delegates underlined the success of the event.
