Located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, San Diego, known as America’s Finest City is famous for its abundance of white-sand beaches and warm weather. San Diego is California’s second largest city and the United States’ eighth largest with a population of over 1.3 million.

During the summer months the city’s wide, soft, sandy beaches are packed. In the winter season, however, the beaches are often refreshingly uncluttered allowing you to go on peaceful walks along the shoreline or surf the waves.

In addition to beautiful gardens such as Balboa Park, it is also home to 17 museums and cultural institutions encompassing science, anthropology, and art – including a collection stocked with the works from the great Matisse, Monet, Dalí, and O’Keeffe.

Music lovers can enjoy the city’s symphony and philharmonic, along with the never-ending stream of acts that play in venues like House of Blues San Diego, Belly up, the annual Kaaboo Del Mar festival, and many more.

The local chefs and restaurants have, rightfully so, earned many of the highest food-world accolades and made appearances on every food show on television, including Top chef.

Ingredients fished from local waters to carefully picked from far-flung destinations abroad, San Diego chefs create top-notch food for every occasion. Classy, casual, hip and tacos in between. You are guaranteed to find the right restaurant with the right mood.

San Diego can be considered the world capital of fish tacos, and familiar Mexican staples like burritos, fajitas, and seafood can be found in every style and level from food trucks to fine dining.

A city that caters to a vibrant and laidback nightlife.

Night owls can enjoy a range of bars or clubs in San Diego. The high-end establishments found in the city are refreshingly unpretentious, and most carry local beers on tap.

For a Vegas-style experience the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego is the place to be. Laidback Pacific Beach and Mission Beach are recognized for their beach bars and young crowd.

Other activities popular with students learning English in San Diego include exciting day trips and weekend getaways. For snowboarding or skiing in the winter head two hours northeast to Big Bear Mountain. Twenty-five miles to the south you will find Mexico, where you can enjoy a wide range of activities or hop on a quick flight to Cabo.
