Parliament Hill is one of the most famous attractions of Ottawa. It is located in the downtown in a scenic spot overlooking the Ottawa River. On every morning in the summer months you can watch the Changing of the Guard ceremony here. It’s also a gorgeous example of the Gothic Revival style of architecture and guided tours of the building run throughout the day.

Check out the National Gallery of Canada as well. It has one of the world’s best collections of Canadian Art, including photography, sculpture and more. The Notre Dame Basilica is another intriguing attraction of this city. It’s the oldest standing church in Canada and its interior is exquisite – with stained glass windows and hundreds of intricate religious carvings.

The Rideau Canal is a historic waterway that fills with boaters in the summer months and ice skaters in the winter months. It winds right through the heart of the city and then connects with the Ottawa River at a dramatic lock near Parliament Hill.
