Quality Language Schools Worldwide

Spanish language school Malaca Instituto in Malaga has installed solar panels on the roof of its student residence, Club Hispanico, making the most of the Mediterranean sunshine and protecting the environment. It is the latest step in the school’s vision for a greener future, following the introduction of recycling programmes for paper and cooking wastes, low consumption lighting systems and reusable marker pens.

The 18 solar panels provide 60sqm of energy-absorbing space and will produce 70% of hot water and heating needs for the campus-based Spanish language school, which has 25 classrooms and 102 bedrooms as well as offices, a bar, restaurant and other facilities. Malaca Instituto plans to increase the capacity in the near future to also produce direct electrical energy. For its remaining heating needs and as a back-up to the solar panels, Malaca Instituto has replaced its old natural gas boilers with new, high efficiency boilers using cleaner, ecological technology.

“ I’m always interested to find ways to protect the environment and I am very proud of this substantial investment in eco-friendly technology,” says Ida Willadsen, director of Malaca Instituto.
