IALC President Speaks at the 9th European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages recently took place in Salerno (Italy), organised by IALC school Accademia Italiana in cooperation with the Province of Salerno and the EU Italian representatives. It was supported by further IALC schools: BELS Malta, Liden and Denz, Accademia Columbus and GCI. Institutions taking part included the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and the European University Centre of Cultural Heritage. Various panelists made outstanding contributions to the theme of the day: Alessandra Centis and Raphael Gallus (European Commission), Massimo Vedovelli (Rector of University For Foreigners of Siena), Emilio D’Agostino (professor of University of Salerno), Salvatore La Rocca (European University Centre of Cultural Heritage) and there was a videoconference with IALC President, Walter Denz.

About 100 students and teachers, schools directors, universities and private institutions took part in the conference, workshop, seminars and classes in eight different languages: English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, Romanian and Russian.

The event ended with a student competition. Eight winners were awarded scholarships for language courses abroad in Ireland, Malta, Russia, Mexico and Costa Rica.

The European day of Languages in Salerno was a successful event with educational importance that aimed to raise awareness of multilingualism in a European multi-ethnic context.
