IALC 2015 Workshop in Rouen supports Les Amis de Heart

30 April 2015

Les Amis de Heart aim to provide a safe and stable environment for vulnerable children

Mama Nuru founded Heart in the slums of Malindi, Kenya, in 2008, when she took in 4 little girls and 3 little boys. They were sleeping on two mattresses in 3 small rooms without any form of cooking equipment and with one cold tap. Although very basic, the home provided a safe sanctuary for children who had been abused or mistreated.

By 2011, there were 23 children in the home. With the help of Les Amis de Heart, a charity fully recognised by the Kenyan authorities, they were able to move to a more suitable building out of town, with more space, washing and toilet facilities, a kitchen and dining room and some land on which they are now able to grow vegetables and keep goats and chickens. The children also now benefit from regular schooling.

Mrs Julia Steiner has been visiting the orphanage regularly since 2008, and has worked tirelessly to ensure that it stays open. She set up the Association of Friends in Switzerland.

The aim of the charity is to help provide a safe and stable environment for vulnerable children by paying for the running costs which amount to approximately 42,000.00 Euros a year.

During the workshop the charity aimed to raise 5000 Euros.

There are no administration costs. 100% of all donations go to Heart

This year the IALC secretariat will be running the Oxford Fun Run in support of "Les amis de Heart". To sponsor the IALC team, you can make a donation through the StudyPay gateway https://hearthome.studypay.co.uk
