XXII IALC WorkshopRecord Attendance 2005 IALC Workshop Paris
A record 113 language travel agents from 27 countries attended the 2005 IALC Workshop in Paris on 28-30 April 2005, to meet with 85 IALC language schools drawn from around the world. The 22nd IALC Workshop took place at the Novotel Tour Eiffel directly after the IALC annual general meeting. IALC attributes the 35% growth in agent attendance from 2004 to 2005 to a combination of factors. Paris once again proved a popular destination for a meeting as well as French language study. The 1996 IALC workshop in Paris also broke attendance records, attracting 92 agencies. The IALC workshop format underwent a review and some changes in 2005. Agents were offered an extra night of accommodation and the workshop moved forward from Saturday/Sunday to Friday/Saturday. Since 2002, IALC membership has grown by 31 language schools, an increase of roughly 50%. The choice of language schools and courses in IALC has increased proportionately, most notably English in the UK, French in France and Spanish in Latin America. During the last six years, IALC has developed its quality assurance scheme into a rigorous international accreditation for private language schools, guaranteeing minimum international standards and dynamic, forward-thinking member schools. The 2005 IALC meeting was co-organised by the IALC Secretariat and the official 2005 hosts, Ecole France Langue in Paris. Events begin with a party at the Ecole de Langue Francaise Etrangere (ELFE) on Thursday night to celebrate the French language school’s 20th anniversary. It was attended by IALC delegates, ELFE staff and host families. On Friday night, France Langue invited guests to a tour of its school buildings followed by a delicious champagne buffet. The 22nd IALC Workshop culminated in the traditional Gala Dinner on Saturday night, held at the elegant Automobile Club de Paris on Place de la Concorde, with spectacular views of Paris.
