Party at Royal Palace celebrates 100 years of language training

The London School of English celebrated its 100th birthday in style with a glittering party at the Kensington Palace Orangery in September. Around 200 people enjoyed the reception at this stunning royal venue which is located in the heart of London, close to the School’s headquarters in Holland Park.

It was a balmy summer evening enabling guests to make good use of the beautiful Orangery Terrace which overlooks Kensington Gardens. Guests enjoyed award-winning English sparkling wine served with delicate canapés influenced by British classics such as salmon mousse, lamb hotpot and scotch eggs.
Guests included educational agents, representatives from various embassies, business people and the media as well as a number of VIPs including the mayors of two London boroughs and Peter Fabian, who ran the School during the 1960s and 70s. Current Chief Executive, Timothy Blake, thanked everyone for coming and talked about the School’s close relationship with its agents and the passion of its staff. He concluded his speech by setting out his vision for the future: “A centenary is a time for looking back a little, but we are really more interested in looking forward. Our strategy for the future can be summed up in one simple phrase: ‘always change, but always change for the better’.

The London School of English is the oldest accredited English language school in the world and has played a significant role in improving the practical English language and communication skills of thousands of individuals over the last 100 years. Over the decades it has worked with numerous high-profile individuals including foreign politicians and diplomats, security service personnel, senior business people, international footballers and global pop icons.

The School began in 1912 as a small operation in Oxford Street, London and now has two schools in London, one in Canterbury, Kent and another in Stockholm, Sweden. In addition it runs franchise operations in Qatar, Georgia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.
