Interview with Tamwood scholarship winner SHE Herencia

22/12/2011

Jose Antonio Murua at SHE Herencia in Vitoria (Spain), has won the 2nd week’s free scholarship at Tamwood Language Centres in Canada.

We spoke to Jose Antonio Murua to find out more about SHE Herencia and their plans for the 2012 IALC Workshop in Toronto.

Q: Congratulations Jose Antonio, you are the second winner of our weekly free scholarship prize draws. How do you feel?

A: Great. It is unusual to win a prize and I am happy this one is for such a good school. Thank you.

Q: What are you most looking forward to at the 2012 IALC Workshop?

A:Toronto is a great place and it is always nice to meet old friends and do business and have a glass of wine with them. I am also sure I will find some new “products”.

Q: At the Workshop you’ll be able to meet over 100 IALC schools, covering nine major languages in destinations across the world. What are your particular interests - destinations, languages, programmes, age-groups?

A: At SHE Herencia, one of the largest and most relevant language travel agencies in Spain, we promote all sorts of educational programmes for all kind of students (juniors, adults, professional people, 50+...). I must admit that our main destinations are English-speaking countries.

Q: You were established in 1972. How have things changed at the agency since then?

A: In 2012 we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary. As our “product” is an educational one, our clients still want a face to put their questions to and they still come to our offices (particularly the juniors´ parents) but nowadays internet has changed our lives in many ways and it seems as if it is here to stay... with its advantages and disadvantages.

Q: Where does the majority of your student business come from e.g. walk-in, word-of-mouth, website…?

A: Walk-in and word-of-mouth are our main means of business. However, websites and social networks are now vital for our expansion.

Q: Has the source of your student business changed for you over the years?

A: As already said, we have to live with the new technologies but, basically, our clients want to reach the same goals as ever.

Q: What do you see as the biggest challenges in the year ahead?

A: In my opinion, delving into Internet and social networks is the future.

Q: Moving on to find out more about you, which is your favourite travel destination?

A: Definitely Australia. I have been there several times. Our students always come back so happy that I had to find out for myself the reason why. The Aussies are fantastic.

Q: Your favourite pastime?

A: Sports (at my old age, only watching!!!). I love basketball (my city, Vitoria, has one of the best teams in Europe). I also enjoy reading and socialising with friends. But most of all, I am a workaholic. I love this job.

Q: Your favourite song?

A: It is probably the Beatles´ “Here Comes The Sun”.

Q: Your favourite meal?

A: My big problem is that I love all kinds of food (anything can do!!!). If I had to choose, I would say Chinese is probably my favourite cuisine. Although I must say, we Basque people have got some of the best dishes and, as for the wines, we are very lucky to have the Rioja region a stone´s throw from us.

Q: Your dream dinner guests?

A: Although I often have them with me, my two granddaughters are the best. They make me laugh.

Thank you Jose Antonio and we look forward to meeting you at the IALC Workshop in April.
